The Kevda Flower Plant

The kevda flower is one of the famous flowers for its fragrance. Even its leaves are fragrant and the flowers are exotic and have an heavenly fragrance. The yellow kevda flower is very beautiful and it can be kept for many days after blooming, each flower can make a whole room fragrant and freshen up the environment.
The Kevda Plant

Leaf Burn on Kevda Plant
This is a tough plant that can tolerate direct sunlight. The leaves have sharp pointed edges and tiny spikes as border. Many little plants are coming up next to the original one. My kevda plant has not flowered so will post when I get some good news. The white patch seen in this picture is due to watering when the leaf is under the sun. This is called leaf burn and must be taken care of during watering.
Now I always take care to water my plants after the hot sun has cooled down. Best time for  watering plants is in evenings or early mornings. Many bunches have come up and this plant multiplies very fast. The spiky leaves have pointed thorn like edges which can hurt when rubbed against skin. Keep it at distance from eyes and body as its leaves are sharp and pointed.
Tip: Grow kevda plant in a pot that can allow the bunches to grow . A wide mouthed container will be good for growing kevda plant as they do not have very long or deep roots. Soil has to be good and firm for encouraging growth of the kevda plant. Requires regular feeding with fertiliser for encouraging blooming.

  2. hiMohamed. I feel you contact your local nursery because I am not in favor of purchasing online plants. First they face the trauma of travel and you pay more for the same plant and what if it does not make it,,,, Better to see the plant directly for its signs of health and any disease or pests. And also you can verify if it is an authentic plant.

  4. Hello Chandan welcome to Garden Care Simplified. Yes Kevra plant grows in dry climate also. Grow in partial shade to avoid direct sunlight. I think the plant requires more water.
    Hope this helps.

  6. Kiranba, the same here, our kevda plant also has grown for lots of years, I have seen the blooms in forest/private garden where the soil is dry and water less.
Add some fertilizer/cowdung regularly within few months, as kevda does give blooms after many years some say ten some fifteen, will surely share when we see our first blooms.

    1. Hello Unknown , I am not so sure as mine has never flowered, I first kept it in full sunlight, there is profuse fast growth of tiny saplings. Now in indirect sunlight. I think they love mushy soil, as my kevda plant container is well draining and quite dry, will keep trying, don't even know when this will flower???but they grow well, do share when your kevda plant flowers, Thank you!

    1. Yes you can grow a kevda plant Parag in container, I have since many years, it has given out so many many new plants , but have not seen it bloom, so I really don't know if it requires special temperatures and soil care to flower, of course we would want to see the blooms if we are growing this.
Pune has so many wonderful nurseries, I am sure you will get one. I usually keep checking plant nurseries whenever I go any other cities also, for rare plants. You can try online then but , will you get one with a flower? and it might be costly, Hope you find one! All the Best!
