Why are leaves red? why crotons plants are having red leaves? Pigments present in croton leaves give the colour. chlorophylls, carotenoids, tannins, anthocyannins. each absorbs energy from different wave lengths and different regions. these properties give each pigment colour. some absorb red and blue, some absorb green. This also is affected by the amount of sunlight received by the plant.
The important pigment associated with red leaves, red plants is anthocyannin. Chrophyll decreases and anthocyannin increases in some plants due to reflected light and energy they absorb. These beautiful vibrant crimson lake red leaves are so beautiful against the greyish green variegated top.
Artistry in nature, and beauty, so many different shades, you wonder what a beauty God has made, nature truly is beautiful ..and you don't always need flowers to bring colour to your garden and life, leaves also are fantastic!
still continuing to face challenges in growing plants in my entry way garden with very low light and struggling yet, they , my plants love me so much, each one is trying their best. on the verge is the mayur pankhi plant, cypress , have with us since more than ten years...shifted this one to the window sill garden, ..praying..
And with the limitations now opens a new gateway to the world of succulents and ornamental shade loving plants, and of course coloured leaves because bringing them to flower in low lights would be near to impossible...so excited about finding new additions!
