Valentine's Day and Roses

Unexpected gifts give a smile on my face and what can be better than gifting a rose plant. and my husband did justthat. Instead of gifting a rose flower (knowing my obsession for plants) he just splurged on me by buying two huge rose  plants. They have nearly 5 to 6 buds and what a sight! don't go by the size in the photographs they are 4 to 5 inches and really big ones.

Roses will fade in some days but the plants remain and this is the best way to gift some one. Of course if the receiver has a green thumb!
Roses as far as I consider do not require any special care and also they are tolerant to high temperatures of heat and direct sunlight. They also allow us the liberty to skip watering sometimes. For blooming they do need the regular stuff of feeding. I feed them with egg shells and that ahs worked. Ready made fertilizers are also available in the market to encourage flowering in roses.
Most easy plant and does not require much care. Over watering can kill them (personal experience) Sometimes during winter they get white fungus which makes the leaves drop.

The Beautiful Rose Bush

baby soft pink rose flower
This is a beautiful rose bush which is at present in blooming phase. This  is the best time for roses, and it has almost 20 to 25 rose blooms every time. It looks heavenly covered with white and light pink flowers. This bush has exchanged many pots for getting the right place but now I am assured it likes the place it is in. next time for repotting I will have to take care as this does not like shifting. The buds appear frequently and the early blooms are pink in colour. As the flower develops, shades of pink and white are visible. On full blooming the prominent colour becomes white. It is a sure treat to the eyes to see the colour change on the flowers.

Many white roses
A wonder to see two colours on the same plant, same flowers.

Two Pink roses

White rose flower
This is the best time for roses and one has plenty of colurs of rose plants available in the market. The hard thorny ones give big blooms  whereas the bushes give many flowers and this plant has no thorns or maybe soft thorns. The leaves are bright green in colour and they shed and regrow on the same branches. I have trimmed the branches to encourage more blooming but I think this is a climber and still it grows in the same direction. Does not tolerate direct sunlight and hence got the best place in the garden, that which gets partial light during the day! (sensitive handling, does not like to be shifted).

Stages of Flowering in Fire Ball Flower with Photographs

fire ball flower buds
The small fire balls in a bunch . Unknown to me this small stem had been plucked by my husband and it did grow fast.
Fire ball plant with tiny buds in bunches
There were many tiny balls on the plant. Feasting on any plant is the favourite pasttime of the birds around my garden. And even this plant had its share of plucking the new flower buds! Still it did overcome and presented many small bunches of buds.

Fire ball flower bloomed
The flower is very beautiful and majestic. There is a riot of the colur red and the tiny strands which all together make up the flower. The small yellow pollens are attached to each strand of the red at the end.

Blast of red in my garden.
Beauty at its best! red fire ball flower

The closing time. Each bloom though takes many days to form its beauty lasts for only one day. By evening it starts withering and closing. If the climate is not very hot it may last for another day. After closing the flower turns into a brown colour and later falls when dried.
