Scientific name of the sacred Tulsi plant is Ocimum Tenuiflorum and Basil is its English name.

Tulsi the wife of Vishnu, is most respected and loved and having this plant in home is considered auspicious and lots of care is taken to keep the plant healthy. There is a belief that the plant shrivels with negative energy or if the home or owner is going to. Some people plant it outside their home whereas some swear never to place it outside.   

Tulsi plant does not like direct sunlight and grows best in indirect sunlight. We have lost many tulsi plants, i really don't know why she does not love me! the best part of growing tulsi plant at home in container is that the fallen seeds begin to sprout on their own and produce lovely baby Tulsi plants.

Another great benefit of tulsi plant is when the leaves are chewed from time to time it reduces the pangs of smoking. This helps people who are planning to quit smoking but finding it difficult, Tulsi comes to your rescue , naturally quit smoking, at least you can reduce the number of smokes.

The wonderful herb does not stop here, basil leaves can be used to get healthy glowing skin. You can get an instant glowing skin with tulsi leaves, it not only reduces scars but also gives an instant glow to your skin. 1) Dry powder can be rubbed on skin for glow 2) boil leave sin water and apply to skin 3) use in face mask along with besan.

this is one plant that does not grow in every place. Wondering about its symbolic meanings  as people say tulsi does not stay in every place. That is the plant does not flourish in every home even after planting many times, and people just let go of trying. 

1) tulsi plant requires blackish clay soil. It requires to retain some water other wise the leaves droop and the plant dies.

2) Trimming is very tricky, as some swear to take permission from the plant and only then trim. Here the trick is to allow the flowers, seeds to dry and then only snip off tiny top parts to help the plant to grow as bush. Cutting large parts damages the plant. And never do it in afternoons , by evening the sensitive plant will look sick!

3) Watering carefully. It requires great care , never skip watering till its roots are established. It does not have the capacity to grow without water hence people keep the plant with some one when they are out for a vacation, other wise the plant dies off.

4) Tulsi plant grows from its own seeds dropping in the soil and planting them with hand has not given me much great results in new plants.

5) The touchy Tulsi plant loves care, sometimes neglect! Indirect sunshine, especially morning one is good. Sometimes changing places helps to bring a growth spurt.

6) It loves soil and ground and will also grow large.

7) People ritualistically pour water gradually in mornings, burn incense,  as I have seen, maybe the plant loves the pampering! here the tulsi plant is watered gradually and not in large amounts of water , just to see that the roots are wet, this the plant loves.

8) Why the tulsi plant dies with some ones touch? maybe the plant is sensitive to some energy vibrations. But it is sensitive and have seen many people mention about this. One of the reasons I have observed is that the planters do not take precautions with the sunlight and just bring costly containers and plant it outside in full sun, and also water when they come from office in early evening after the plant is hot from the day sun. So any amount of rituals will not save the plant!

7 tips to take care of garden lawns during Rainy season monsoons

 From soil over flowing and making the pathway muddy to insects and tiny creatures making space within the grass puddles there is some care required for open lawns during rainy season , monsoons. Soon rains will begin and our garden lawns become a mess. We need to be prepared to care for the beautiful lush green lawns with some useful tips.

Many are now opting for artificial lawns that are plastic based but they do not give any grounding energy and I truly am in favor of natural plants always! The artificial lawns have prickly plastic spikes and do not give comfort while walking barefoot.

Sharing some practical Important Lawn Care Tips During Rainy season Monsoons-

1) It is advisable to prepare before hand and many people get shades installed for garden to protect plants and lawn from heavy down pour. You can also have a swing with shade that gives protection from rain and allows you to enjoy the greens during monsoons.

2) Temporary plastic covers can also be added as the ones in cricket or soccer fields. This is messy but prevents direct rain water from destroying your lawns.

3) If you wish to keep the lawns open for the greens take extra precautions before onset of monsoon to apply stones, rocks, side ways to stop the mud and soil from over flowing to the pathway. For this you need not spend a lot, rocks used or construction purposes also can be kept as lining the side way of the lawn except that be careful while using the lawn and if you have small children and pets around, take extra care to prevent accidental trips.

4) Before beginning of monsoon trim the lawn so that it does not grow like wild immediately with the first showers. This is another task as lawns grow profusely with grass growing uncontrollably. Irregular patterns start forming with fast grass growth and also weeds start coming up. 

5) The most important one, small puddles of water can form with heavy rains and which gives home to many slimy, tiny, creatures and frogs, fishes and what not. Even snakes start to come during monsoons so keep the lawn neat and trimmed down. 

Before monsoon fill all small holes, depressions in soil and any empty spaces that can be home to puddles of water.

6) Avoid any accumulation of water in your lawn during monsoon as this start breeding of mosquitoes, flies and many insects that spread diseases. This is a serious health hazard and needs utmost care while having gardens. 

7) If you have a water feature in the center of the lawn ,remember it is bound to over flow during heavy down pour. So take the extra precautions to keep it clean and healthy. Here you can also add up few rocks by lining the surrounding surface of the water well, feature  to allow water to go deeper inside the soil instead of spreading to the whole lawn. Or give it a pathway to go to the side of the lawn into the drains. Redirect rain water to other sources or under water drains. 

Take care of your green lawns during rainy season and prevent soil from flowing away. Also you can add rocky soil and some hard rocks before monsoon so that it will allow water to seep in rather than let it flow away side ways.

  Beautiful red flowers and a shade of off white cream centre, just like strawberry vanilla duet ice cream this flower looks really very beautiful and also has strong heavenly fragrance that can be experienced from far away. Frangipani Champa plants have a lot of religious sanctity among many religions especially Hindus. It is believed that the champa plant due to its heavenly fragrance attracts snakes. Hence many people avoid growing this plant in the house garden. But this red one is unique and has special symbolism in rituals.

Some also have this rural spiritual belief that this plant is inhabited  by nature spirits and fairies and hence young girls and married women must not sit or go near this champa plants. Nowadays we see champa trees in almost all gardens. They are grown for their easy low care and heavenly fragrances. 

The champa plant is always considered sacred and pooja is done  for blessings from mother nature. Do try growing champa in container as they require very less watering and care. Trimming the branches is necessary if you are growing this plant in a small garden but this champa can grow freely when planted in soil into a huge champa tree. Don't over water as the plant can take few dry days even during summers. 

Feng shui of the garden improves a lot by fragrant flowering plants and red champa tree or plant though looks great and can take any place in your garden it is best grown in south of your garden to activate the fame and recognition area. Red flowering plants grown in south of your home are very powerful activators of life source energy, wealth and fame. 

The stem of champa plant is mushy and has a high moisture content. requires less watering and care once the plant has rooted well. Champa can be grown from the cuttings easily and you can get cuttings from any gardener or friend. As you cut the branch put positive intentions of request to the plant, apply some mud/soil to the cut part to heal it and then plant it in a fresh container. 

Champa flowers are used in rituals and religious way in temple offerings to God. The champa flowers also have been famous as the girl in Hawaii adorned with a garland of frangipani or an hair piece decorated on the head. Very important 14 practical tips for trimming and cutting plants from your garden

Growing and starting a garden is one aspect and Maintaining your garden is another! Very important practical tips for trimming and cutting plants from your garden-

Trimming garden plants

1) Check for insects , pests and creatures first in thick growth plants. Trust me there are many who make homes in the bushes as the plants also grow into quite a thick foliage. If you are trimming for pests then apply face mask to cover and protect yourself from mites and mealy bugs.

2) wear gloves, I didn't know this earlier but really important, you accidentally get scratched by the bark or stem and some thorns plants and sticky liquid gum oozing plants can give you serious skin issues. Gloves are very important to prevent skin rashes and cuts.

3) Take extra care to cut plants with spikes and thorns, wear spectacles to protect eyes. 

4) Cut plants need to be disposed off carefully. Very extra care required to pack them before throwing. wrap in news papers so that the garbage collector does not get hurt.

5) Check for buds, please do not trim stems with buds and growing flowers, yes we have to some times in case of pest attacks, just request the plant, thank it for the beautiful blooms and trim it. Once I did accidentally trim a bud branch and felt really bad.., still feeling sad, but it was accidental.

6) Check for plants with fine hairs and sticky oozing liquids. This makes the skin burn and also develop rashes, red patches.

7) Timing is important avoid winters as it is harsh climate already for them to survive. I have trimmed them frequently during the rainy season months, to prevent over growth , this is necessary as leaving them off hand the plant loses nutrition and it affects its health, many huge plants in small containers also do not survive if they outgrow pots with overflowing roots.  

8) Many plants like champa, Magnolia, that have very thick fleshy stem are really difficult to cut with scissors, I had a trying time with trimming these, as I did not want to give much pain to the plant, but they can be bent by hand and cut off easily.

9) They do feel the pain, remember this. Most important choose sharp tools, scissors and knives for cutting to reduce and minimize pain to your plants.

10) talk to them before trimming and even after trimming to send love and healing so that they recover fast from the trauma of cutting wounds.

11)Please take extra care for yourself after the trimming of garden plants process.  personal care, wash hands and take bath with antiseptic soaps after trimming garden plants. Apply generously moisturizers and antiseptic creams on cuts, bruises. Also do check for allergies in case you accidentally came in contact with oozing liquids from cut plants. Apply antiseptic creams and also take anti allergic medicines if required. 

12) See that you have free time safe time during trimming of garden plants. Protect family, children and pets while you are at this trimming cutting task and see that they do not get accidentally hurt in this process.

13) Pack and cover all cut plants , share if possible cuttings to neighbors and friends, each one makes into a new life! Neatly wrap them in paper and dispose them, or if you have a large yard let them dry and then burn them to make recycled fertilizer. 

14) Immediately after trimming cutting a branch or stem apply some soil. This helps heal the wounds of cutting faster. 

its every time an emotional time to see a bit barren smaller stems, after trimming and cutting,  but then there is so much hope with this process as they spring into fresh shoots and lime green leaves and grow healthy and happy again!

 Night Queen Saussaurea obvallata care! Bring some magic into your garden with this mystical plant! The blooms will be worth it!  there are always scientific reasons and if you have the right knowledge, and apply it,  this plant will flower! I keep reading, searching on Google for Brahma Kamal flowering time, and watch You Tube videos but no one shares the exact formula. People just make videos and share the same info. Is there a magical aspect to the Night Queen?

• Why do buds form and then fall off on this Night Queen Brahma Kamal plant? Many people struggle with this. First when a new bud comes it is a miracle in itself with hope and joy and then if it falls off people get depressed. This is a plant and it needs its care trust me on that. Observe its habits, understand its growth process, and talk to your plant. There is a scientific reason why Brahma Kamal plant buds drop?

• 1) The plant is too weak. A newly planted Brahma Kamal leaf is not very strong to hold the weight of this bud. The flowers are really heavy and big in size as shared by my Blog Garden care Simplified  readers.

• 2) Disease and pests in Brahma Kamal Plant. The Brahma Kamal plant is a succulent, means the leaves are fleshy and have stored water. They attract pests, beetles, bugs make tiny holes in them. Slugs feast upon them and ants too love these! I am so happy that they are MashaAllah going healthy in my window garden. and I keep a check on their health regularly. watch this You Tube video Brahma Kamal plant disease and care. BE ALERT! that is my motto! 

• 3)Watering issues .Why Brahma Kamal plant leaves go limp? 

• Watering is I think most important issue for leaf and bud drop. leaves get mushy with over watering and rot. And less watering too dries the roots and the leaves or bud drops. 

• 4) feedings. how much fertilizer did you feed your plant? there is a tendency to over feed to get fast flowers but the plant has to absorb or digest this feeding and many times plants die of over dose. I have seen even other plants like mogra and roses that immediately spright up with so many tiny buds and even before they grow the buds drop off. Reason-too much fertilizer. Give less food, and more love. Too much green foliage is also harmful, where will the plant get strength to produce flowers? Night Queen often does not require any fertilizers. 
• 5) Environment. Did a pet or a small child just pluck it off while observing the bud? Harsh winds and rains in outside environment can be the reason for bud drop. If it shows buds protect it. they are precious. talk to the plant before shifting it. You have to protect your plant buds from others, especially evil eye glances. the ANNOUNCEMENT is only made on the night when the flower actually blooms.  Some people also tie a black cloth for protecting plants.

When do you buy Night Queen  plants? is there a good time? a best time to plant them? Avoid summers, choose full moon nights to plant this auspicious plant if you have the choice. the energies are high. Never buy or plant Night Queen saplings at night. Never cut the leaves at night. Never share a cutting during afternoon twelve o'clock with anyone. you risk your plant dying! Usually I buy plants in morning or evening and bring them home before night. I plant new saplings during early hours of the day. This method allows the plant to adjust to the new home, new soil and pot for the whole day before night falls. 
Very easy to propagate from mother plant- When you have a leaf of Brahma Kamal allow it to dry for a day or two and then plant them. Before ten in morning you can choose a time. make some intentions and talk to your plant while you pot it. This helps the new sapling to bond with you. 
I think early winter is a good time when the cactus, Night Queen leaf gets time to live dormant and then sprout into new shoots of leaves.

It is believed in Hinduism culture that the Brahma Kamal plant only flowers in some homes and those are chosen to experience goodluck in form of good news, wealth and happiness. So the journey of love continues with yet waiting to see Lord Brahma blossom the creative energies in my home. The wait is I read a few years to fourteen years for this plant to begin showing its first flowers. And I still remember the first bud that fell...

My First Night Queen Bud which I lost and still waiting..

it was raining heavily and the plant was on our terrace garden...I didn't even know the bud and later saw its minute details, explicit beauty! things would have been so different had I seen the flower blossom at that time, so many years back, but my passion continues. I have few pots with healthy growing plants of Saussurea obvallata Night Queen. So the obsession became a passion of collecting plants from different places, cities,  and growing them.
