Time to plant bulbs as winter is moving out with fresh green shoots coming out from many plants. Our Adenium and the flowering cactus did give us lovely blooms all the season and not to mention the lovely fragrant roses.
Sad about the loss of the Ajwain plant which was with us for many years, it had grown wild, it had grown in many pots, and it had been shared, guess the time had come, each plant has its life, in the last few days the plant tried to bring in small leaves from the dried shoots of stems but guess winter also played havoc and chilly breeze along with less sunlight was the last straw! the roots caught fungus and thus ended to the life.

brown protective covering over the bulbs |
The amaryllis had not bloomed last year and as there were too many small bulbs in the pot it needed transplanting. When there are too many bulbs in single container and added a few more babies the plant develops more green elongated leaves then the bulb will not have enough energy to produce blooms.

Amaryllis bulbs for transplanting |
Over watering and cloggy soil will kill you bulb by rotting and fungus, a white substance that develops over the roots and destroys the whole bulb. Before this happens try to save the bulb, the symptoms are when you see yellowing of top leaves or soil going mushy and not draining well, these signs show that the root system of your plant is not healthy and the plant will die if not taken care of.

damaged bulb while transplanting |
Take extra care while removing growing bulbs as the roots have entangled as you may damage the bulbs. I have lost some and now I know it is better to lose the container than the bulb., so a pot is broken and the bulbs were transplanted in a wide mouthed container.

fresh new bulbs |
Bulbs when stored develop a shell like covering brown black colored and inside is the fresh bulb light green colored with lots of stored energy. The bulbs need sunlight for some time of the day to produce blooms. A well draining soil is a must.

White fungus over bulbs due to water cloggy soil |
Bulbs of amaryllis, gladiolus and lily plants , this is the best time to plant them to get big sized blooms with warm sunlight and partial chilly weather during nights.
Thank You!
